The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES) and Skills USA recently announced an agreement to provide co-branded end of program exams for students in secondary and post-secondary automotive technology programs.

Honoring a 24-year tradition of awarding scholarships to students pursuing careers in the automotive industry, the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) is awarding 93 students more than $130,000 in scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year.

You provide all the training you can get your hands on for your technicians, but turnover still is a great problem at your shop. It seems as if when a tech is trained, he or she puts in their two-week's notice and heads to a shop or dealership across town. There are a number of reasons people leave their jobs in the bay, and some of them you can't control. But cutting training opportunities so freshly trained techs will not go somewhere else won't help your cause ? in fact, you're probably doing more harm than good.
